COVID-19 Calvary Update
Dear Calvary Church,
As I am sure you are aware, COVID-19 has emerged in the Unites States and in the state of Illinois as a health crisis. Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, in recent testimony said that every community needs to act now to stop the spread of the virus and mitigate its effects. In today’s daily briefing on the virus, Governor Pritzker gave guidance that no gatherings that are estimated to have 250 or more attendees should gather at this time. There is also a concern that gatherings where adults over 60 are in attendance increases their risk to contract the virus. Older adults can have greater complications if infected with the virus.
In light of the Governor’s guidance and the reality that our large gatherings have older adults, the executive team would like to share the following:
- We are postponing this Saturday’s Pancake Breakfast to May 2nd.
- We are going to have this Sunday’s service online at 10am. No campus will be meeting at their physical locations this Sunday. Please spread the word and join us online!
- This is a quickly evolving situation that changes by the hour. We want to plan for this weekend and then evaluate the situation early next week. Our goals are to help people stay healthy and find the best ways to be the church in this season.
- We appreciate your prayers and patience as we navigate these uncharted waters.
This Sunday we will gather in our homes to worship. We join our brothers and sisters around the world who meet in homes every Sunday. We also join the early church that met in homes and worshipped Jesus. The church has been through a lot in the last two millennia and this virus need not shake us. As we follow Jesus, moments like this make us stronger and brighter in our devotion and mission. In the days ahead, I anticipate God using our church to be a beacon of hope to a sick and lost world.
Thankfully, last year we launched services online so we are ready to worship together even as we are in our homes! God has made a way for us. The kingdom is among us. I can’t wait to see what God will do for our good, his mission and his glory.
